Front square seems like a bit of a waste of space. Too much paving, too much barren space for people to cover, should've either put another few buildings on the edge, or if the unobstructed view of the train station from the street was to be preserved at least put larger park sections on it instead of just a few tiny trees and "artsy" grassy knobs.

The clever part is, it's an addition to the original Kings Cross station - the original building wasn't fit for purpose so, rather than rebuild the station itself, they added the modern concourse off to the side, to hold all the departures until their train's ready to board. Meanwhile the arrivals walk off their train and straight out of the front doors, so they can't get in everyone else's way while they work out their next move.

it's good imo. a mix of old and new, with lessons learned from other transit operators (like busy airports).

Before renovation all this space was even more useless, so it's still a huge improvement. Now the parking has been moved underground, so it's not that easy to just plant more trees. Although it doesn't feel empty, there's always a lot of people moving around, and they often sit on the grass (which is formed to small hills). It's actually one of the best public spaces recently designed in Wrocław.

It looks really big and empty because of the framing of the photo, there are some trees right behind the edge. It is also a big gathering place, since it's one of the only open pedestrian spaces in the city centre in the station's surrounding. Big roads also surround the picture.

Huh. You're right - I'd somehow gotten it in my head that LAUS would be the entrance to the new underground HSR complex. Looks like they're now planning on building the HSR concourse over the existing track. I'm guessing there's plenty of time for more consultants to spend millions on different recommendations though lol

I've been to Wrocław/Breslau last summer and the train station is ofc beautiful and the square in front of it is actually very well designed. Most of the time it's sprawling wit people coming in and out of the station, so the empty space is a must from my experience.

It's not much of a looker from the outside but I love the layeredness of the Berlin main station. You have platforms perpendicular to one another two floors above ground and two floors above ground, and the floors inbetween have walkways, stairs, escalators and elevators cross crossing with shopping sprinkled throughout the place.

It's a shame it was torn down but it wasn't going to make it as a train station alone in an age of declining passenger traffic. The expressway came several years after the demolition btw

Went their once when i was meant to be going to Hayes but i took the wrong train and didnt realise until i got too Grove Park so i had to take the popper too Bromley North instead.

Hayes(Kent) is a pretty underwhelming station. Having 3 generations of rolling stock (Networkers, Electrostars and Desiros) randomlly on your journey is pretty cool
