When compared to trucks trains are more cost and space efficient for national shipping, yet there are hundreds of thousands of semis on the road each day doing cross country shipping even though it's more expensive. Is there really any reason for it beyond Amazon and other logistics companies just not wanting to interact with cargo rail companies despite it being cheaper then hiring truck operators? It just doesn't make sense from an economic standpoint in industries where razor thin savings tend to be treated as a big deal, and that's before we get into the environmental side of this where these type of companies love to do things just for the sake of looking greener.
