I miss those times, being able to use a bus without having to worry about an updated smartphone with a battery charge and your internet functionality not going over data plan. No shitty card products I have to constantly log-in for to agree with the new terms and link yet another bank account and digital signature using the reader and two-step verification.

I just want a simple bus ride and be happy :(

Fair enough but I'm not talking about data collection and tracking and that shit, more concerned with the thing taking more money than it should. Hell, public transport becomes free here in a few months yet you still have to scan to board, I wonder.....

Print out your menu or whatever and hand it or me or I'm just going to your website or leaving.
My phone doesn't do it and I"m not putting on extra bullshit because you can't print shit out

well if you buy a day ticket or something more than a single in person in my city you get given a printed qr code
its the same as the app you scan it in the reader when you get on the bus
added advantage that people leave them lying around so you can pick them up and get free bus rides

in me eastern euro country we have card scanners and ticket automats
on the country side small buses from private guys still operate on cash only though, spare change is not that hard to get by though

most American transit is still cash only because if they gated it behind a card aka something only reloadable at safeway half their customers wouldn't be able to use the bus anymore because they don't have credit cards, smartphones, or the ability to get to a grocery store during service desk hours

The only reason digital payment on buses is even a thing is because nobody can be bothered to hire bus conductors. It shouldn't be the job of the driver to collect tickets - someone else should do it while the bus is moving, reducing dwell times.

My city's transit system accepts cash. But it also accepts tap to pay from devices or credit cards.

My favorite part, having my transit pass on my apple watch with "express" mode. Literally just tap my wrist on the reader without pressing any buttons or anything and it automatically reads my transit pass. shit is so unbelievably cash.

They're slowly rolling out credit card integration to the transit system in Brisbane. I think they already have it enabled in Sydney and Melbourne
