Even with a battery car of some kind for excursions beyond under the wire, would it be really worth it? It may be popular with some railfans, but that's about it. And one if their biggest attributes, their speed, is going to be restriction anywhere outside the NEC. Think of all those restored steam locos that were meant to pull super heavy trains or go at high speeds. They don't need to be going at high speeds or dragging 100 freight cars to impress and draw a crowd. The GG1 has no real appeal outside of her service except to us.
