I genuinely believe the carriers are making the job as miserable as possible to push the best people out as a union-breaking tactic.
Of course, as long as the their beloved pre-85 members old heads still have jobs, union leadership is content to sit around with their thumbs up their asses. This is exactly what happens in every railroad labor-management dispute, a court or arbitration board slaps them down and the union comes back with its tail between its legs to tell you how fucked you are.
