So I know le no public transportation in America but realistically how good is the bus service in your town? I feel like it's decent in mine. I ride it often.

I used to live in Broward county. I wish I had begun riding the buses years sooner: while it's not great, it's much, much better than nothing.
Weak points: not 24/7, ends real early at night, many interesting locations are 2 miles away from the nearest bus stop.
Strong points: many routes, especially in older, denser, and more eastern parts of the county. Buses reasonably clean, reasonably on-time.

I've since moved to another state, and I can walk to the city's central bus station in the same time it'd take me to walk to the nearest bus stop in Florida.
My actual nearest bus stop here is less than a ten minute walk from home.
Downsides: no trains other than for a single Amtrak stop, in Reno.

It's unfortunate because there's decent support for it, a previous Republican mayor had big plans to completely overhaul transit, got a ton of federal funding to build and operate a BRT route, and then one smooth brain city councilor torpedoed the project. A big problem with the system is that it tries to cover way too much ground with the funding available. It covers virtually the entire city but all but three lines, one being the aforementioned BRT, have frequencies greater than 30 minutes at peak times, and stop way too frequently to get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time.

It's pragmatic. Brand spanking new locally produced electric bus fleet. Goes through all of the major streets. Costs $1.50 one way with free transfer within 2 hours of getting on board. A monthly pass is $50. The routes have changed, for example, route 11 used to take me from my house block to the community college, but now I have to take a different route to get there.

I gotchu famalam. This is about 8 minutes by car and 26 minutes by bike if you're feeling suicidal. And there's no bus that even comes close to this area lol.

UTA bus service is decent if you live in Salt Lake County. They've been experimenting with replacing bus routes with "microtransit" vans "powered by Via". Whether that is a good thing I can't say because I've never used it. If the reviews are anything to go by, it's shit.

Pretty dog shit even toward the more touristy areas. I live in a Beach tourist town but I rarely see public transportation driving around because there's no need for it unless you are Foreigner with no car or an extreme poor fag. Like most of the United states, it's built around car travel.

Where I live in Chicago it's fairly good, they do a decent job filling in the gaps between train lines. My only gripe is that (like almost everywhere else in the US) they stop way too fucking often and could be way faster if they didn't stop every block.

Yep. It never gets better, sometimes the busses just don't come. It is really weird because we have a train route from the middle of nowhere Ocala, but we can't get a line from UCF to Disney, or UCF to Casselberry. The one bus route from UCF only goes to downtown for some reason.
This place is a car dependent hellscape with some of the most expensive car insurance in America

honestly love how extensive the bus service in the DC metropolitan area is. All the lines in green are free to ride and always in good condition. Use it multiple times a week. Not to mention I still get service from the DC metro (black) and DC metrobus (orange) systems. While not quick compared to a car, I can get from my place in Bethesda to Alexandria in about an hour for 4 bucks off-peak

My county (parish) runs a demand-pull system that only runs 7:30-5:00 on weekdays, with reservations required seven(!) days in advance, and written registration required before that, with a fare of at least $1.50 and no guarantees that you'll be able to actually get to your destination. I've never seen a single transit vehicle and no one I've mentioned this system to here even knows it exists.
As far as I'm aware it's only there to get people who are too old to drive to and from their medical appointments.
I'm considering signing up and using it to get to the local Amtrak station for a day trip down the line and back just to see what's practically reachable in a day without using a car here.

One time I was flying, and my plane into Dulles got cancelled, and all other flights that day. That metro saved me because I could just go into Reagan (or even Baltimore, but didn’t need that), and just ride the metro to Dulles, then take the airport shuttle to get my car. Added a couple hours to my trip, but I got home when I needed. Plus it’s easier to find parking outside of DC than in DC, so it helped with the museums and stuff.

It's pretty terrible. They're usually either several minutes late or early, and they don't really try to force people to pay fares or anything, so crackheads can simply throw a quarter at the bus driver and ruin everyone else's transport for however long they feel they need to go.

UCF has 61,000 students, it is the largest university by student enrollment, yet the public transit to and from the school is awful. Even the road into the school is a stroad. I am convinced the entire thing is a scam to get more parking money.

I also got bedbugs from riding on it, which was a disgusting and expensive ordeal that took multiple exterminator appointments, hundreds of dollars, and throwing out most of the stuff in my room to fix. I have a car now and I'm never going back. Maybe public transit works in countries not filled with parasite-carrying brown people, but in America there's a reason we hate it.
