Interesting to think that there's likely thousands of technically elite cyclist out there that have never actually set one tire on the road. I fucking hate them all.

the level of suffering required to be elite cannot be self imposed in the moment, it's bought on by circumstance, terrain, and competition

I'm not doubting these people's physical ability or this very beneficial exercise, but these people are doing this in an air conditioned room, are able to drink water whenever easily, and working with the same resistance throughout.

Interesting that you mentioned that. With the rise of zwift some innovative teams decided to try to find new talent using indoor cycling tests to determine contracts.

Alex Bogna won the Zwift Academy this year and will be racing with Alpecin-Fenix in 2022. He's got a sweet mullet and appears to be signed for 2023 as well. He's only 20. His only race this year was the U23 aussie national road race championship and placed 35th.
