I just discovered the Yak-40. I must say I'm impressed by it. I didn't know the soviets could build something so sleek. Find the list of accidents: mfw it's three pages long.

It pretty much unites the full spectrum of things causing high accident rates: It's cheaply made, safety wasn't as high a design priority as it could've been seemingly, then they built a lot of them ages ago, most of which have been running in all the worst places, under the most horrid conditions, for all the worst airlines, flown and maintained by many of those noone would've let near an expensive plane.

Seems like a lot of the listed accidents were human errors. The plane itself didn't seem that bad especially after reading a bunch of crashes where everyone walked away. Seems like a pretty tough plane
