When the 91s first entered service, the Mk4 coaches weren't ready, so they took some HST sets and turned one of the power cars into pseudo DVTs.
The story gets better. They initially ran with the engine acting as a generator, but quickly found they overheated, so they then operated with both the 91 and 43 providing power.
