>>1781290>>1783979So I rewatched Premium Rush last night, that was a weird experience now that I've been a courier for too long. Let's push the cringey figure narrative of the movie aside. The cinematography, bike stunts, and bike builds were pretty good actually, like the impound lot scene. Every bike had weirdly low gearing so everyone is hilariously spinning their cranks and I think some scenes are sped up to look faster than it really is, I didn't notice the low gear ratios the first time. Then there's the funny parts I understand now, like the dispatcher who doesn't listen to anyone and that really old courier who says weird shit nobody understands. "The pedal turns" lmao
The weirdest thing I noticed though is the shoehorning of the Chinese actors and narrative in the film with anti-American undertones. Like that quip in the Hawala meeting scene where the Asian girl is like "I work three jobs" and the ticketmaster is like "Ahh, The American Dream." There's also the crooked cop antagonist and anti-corpo protagonist. Idk, it's just weird now that I'm not focusing on the courier parts of the movie and looking at it analytically.
The movie aged quite well but it's also a reminder of how weird the late 00s and early 10s were
