What gear would you guys recommend for a EUC like pads, helmet, and wrist protectors? Order anything off of Amazon or is there a better site for gear like that?

I got a lot of it off amazon. The Leatt shin guards and elbow guards are pretty good. I have the Demon Podium helmet and generic wrist guards. You don't really need anything fancy

I crashed my wolf king going off a small skate-park jump, it was only about a 26 mph crash, but I got thrown off the scooter and it broke my motorcycle helmet's visor connection.
It made me realize that these things aren't safe for the shit that I do while regularly riding.
And that if I were to fall off doing some of the shit I did before this crash that I would probably be dead.
I had a motorcycle jacket on and the Snell helmet on, that was it.
got a small friction burn on my knee too, stay safe lads.

Is there not a single US dealer for the Mi Scooter 3? It's the only scooter on the Xiaomi website that isn't listed. I can get it from Bongland on Ebay but it will take forever.

Nevermind I read that Ninebot makes both the Xiaomi and Segway scooters and that there's market jewery going on so Xiaomi scooters can't legally be sold by US retailers. We get marked up Segway prices instead just because of the name. Guess I have to import it.

Im thinking of getting a fat tire 20 inch wheel folding e-bike. Can they off road, and can I add power to run them at 50 mph? or would it wobble and break? Ideally id have a cargo carrier that Id strap an additional 1 KWH LFP battery. Basically I want to use a cheap ebike the way one would use a 200cc dirtbike, but obviously I dont want to crash or break it

are you talking about something like picrel? I've heard this frame is pretty solid. The problem is that if you want to do that you basically have to scrap all the electronics because the motor is not going to be powerful enough on a 48v system. You're probably looking to use a 78v system with something like a 2000w motor and obviously the battery it came with wont be useful.

Exactly. I was thinking I could maybe buy a non electric version and add a 3KW motor with some sort of wide ratio 2 speed planetary gearbox or maybe a belt drive CVT. Also id want to carry a backpack so it would be up to 275 pounds plus the powertrain

well there's an issue with that. There is no non ebike version of that frame and normal foldable bikes are flimsy with small tires, designed to go like 10mph for 2 miles.
If you want to go offroad you probably want a version with full suspension which is going to be over $1k unless you find a used one. Maybe you could sell your extra components on ebay or something to recover some of the cost. I think using a mountain bike frame would be more cost efficient

Yeah, I looked at those FS mountain bikes but I want to fit 2 in my trunk and I want to be able to carry it up to my balcony for storage. Plus these bikes look more comfy for a casual ride. I dont like pickups and I hate bike racks.

If that's what you want you should get the Polarna M4. That brand seem like one of the better companies to use that frame. It's on sale and has full suspension. If you sell the battery you should get at least $400 for it. If you do that that brings it down to $900 for the bike which isn't that bad.

And how about the wheels? Can the 5 blade wheels handle daily off road driving with a heavy rider, or would spokes be better? Also I was looking at super scooters - 2wd 5.6 to 8kw motors 80 to 100km/h top speed. I could buy one ready to go off of aliexpress, but seems like a bike will be easier to ride.

I don't know for sure but the spoke look pretty thick I wouldn't be too worried. E scoots are good and I think you get more power and range for the money for a finished product. They're technically less stable but I don't think it takes long to adapt. The real question is if you want to sit down or not

The seat is around a $50 option on most of those scooters, my big concern is hitting pot holes with 11 inch wheels. Also I like that I can pedal a bike to extend my range or if I have an electrical problem, which is easier than dragging a 100 pound scooter.

you don't want to sit on those scooters. Pot holes can be bad but you should be watching for road surface hazards no matter what. Anyway if the bike fits what you want better just get the bike. Hopefully you like DIY

Thats way off. When I was a kid, id speed down hills and crash my bike at 50km/h on occasion. You usually dont crash straight into something with 100% impact velocity, its a loss of control followed by a parabolic drop with mostly forward velocity. So using pure instinct that overrides your consciousness adjust your trajectory so that you scrub off speed over some distance and you lay around hurt, cry for a while, get up brush yourself off, disconnect the front brake and ride your bike home very carefully. Of course being an adult, im bigger and It might take longer to recover. But I think if you throw a kid off of the roof hes going to be very broken and either he will die or require extensive medical care and recovery time.

Im moving inndawoods, the roads are awful I pretty much have to hit potholes. I guess I guess ill start with a stock ebike and use my car for 40+ mph roads

Nah its MCM5 v2. 800wh
They weight about the same V8S is 16.8kg vs 17.2kg of MCM5.
But MCM5 v2. is much better.
1. More powerful, it's Begode no compromise pocket rocket controller tuning vs deluted normie Inmotion.
2. Comes with 14x2.5 tire (V8S is 14x2.15).

Of course Begode gets much flack for quality control and batteries problems, but MCM5 is old model that got bugs sorted out and recent lg 21700 batteries fail doesn't applies here because MCM5 uses 18650 cells.

Had anyone here yet try the one wheel thing?
I recently learned that it's a thing from an angry videos about it bricking itself if user tries to replace battery.
And despite that, it looks like a good transport option, on par with scooters at least.

They have the best specs for the price in terms of range and power. They have the steepest learning curve but in my opinion the most fun.
Cheaper ones can go maybe 10-20 miles with a top speed of 20mph. The best ones can go like 50mph with a range of 70-110 miles. Some of them have suspension but it's not necessary.

Recommended protective gear can range from basically nothing if you're going under 10 to full motorcycle gear if you're on the fastest ones.

Avoid Begode except for maybe the Commander and Hero

Some of them have pretty big tires. I've hit potholes and survived. You should be looking out for road surface hazards on any of these vehicles anyway. It's all about how big the pot hole is, if you're ready for it and how fast you're going.

you have sometimes to replace a couple of 18650 cells in the battery with a spot welder, not a normal welder(too hot too dangerous for lithium cells). so you spent 10$ instead of 120-450$ if you change the whole battery.

Onewheel loses in pretty much everything to EUC.
Only pro is Onewheel has skaters aesthetic that is big for some people.
But from performance anything point of view EUC is just plain better.

Went nuts with one of those stimulus checks and bought a Kweld. They're not perfect from what I've read but they hit a sweet spot between those amazon welders like you have and the professional ones that cost over $300 USD.

The trick with these is to do lots of research and learn from others mistakes before trying your first weld. Too easy to screw something up. Get a good size 3s lipo to go with this. One with a high C rating.

Such as? I'm looking for big tires at minimum, suspension is a plus but I heard that's still in the very early stages for EUCs and it gets really expensive because for some reason it's reserved for enthusiasts and there's no entry-level EUC with suspension yet.

yeah eucs are still in an experimental phase. Scooters and bike have been around for over 100 years and every combination of everything has been tried.
I have a Kingsong 16x with 16 inch tire and I've hit some pretty nasty bumps and potholes that I wasn't ready for and I still stayed on.
I think you're best wheel will probably be the Inmotion v11. That's an 18 inch wheel with suspension. It's expensive but you can get 50-60 miles on it if you're not fat.
Riding with lower air pressure also helps, experience with handling bumps and physical conditioning that you develop will also make bumps that seem impossible at first seem trivial.
Overall I don't think potholes are a massive issue unless you're dodging miles of literal craters in the pavement

Why do you need a self balancing algorithm? I like unicycles and I don't see why they're neglected in favor of this weird toy that isn't even a proper unicycle while e-bikes can keep going without a care in the world.

I decided to get myself Trek Verve+ 2.
I'm a big and fat guy (190cm/110kg) and here in Japan, these Trek e-bikes seem to be the only reliable kind of bicycle that's officially rated for lardasses like me.
The bike + the lock + the helmet + anti-theft protection summed up to a total of ~$2610

The idea is that with an e-bike I'll be more motivated to take some evening rides instead of fairly monotonous walks.

I can't do that though, as I said where I live is hilly, half my mourning ride to work is through the local park, which is always full of dog walkers, if I free wheel it I'm going to be running down dogs, nobody keeps them on leads and no-one has any consideration of others, the park has a massive path about 4 meters wide, 1 meter is lined off for bikes, yet the dog walkers always walk in the cycle section, I've had multiple dogs literally jump up at me while I'm going past and their owners just stand around chatting
And if I free wheel I'm going to gain way to much speed for the areas I'm in, it's very hilly here
I know I'm essentially braking wrong but at the moment I don't see what other option I have, it's wear my brakes down or run people over

The battery is only ~2kg so not really although it's not the best coasting bike I've had. I don't mind the extra weight as I ride for fitness but I also have a medical condition where I can get really tired very suddenly so having the motor there is a god-send.

You should never buy a scooter with that much mileage on it even if it cosmetically looks new. At that much mileage the battery may be nearing the zone where its health might start to decline and could suddenly take a shit out of nowhere one day. With that much mileage it's worth absolutely no more than 300 eur/usd because you may be paying exactly that much to replace the battery soon. I've never see a commercial or consumer Max with that much mileage go for more than that price. If you ever buy a used Xiaomi / Ninebot scooter always tell the seller to charge it to full before you meet and use the M365 tools app to check out the overall battery and individual cell health.

But here, in Ukraine, it's impossible to get a new Ninebot Max for a reasonable price now. I found used one for ~450$, checked it and it works perfectly fine for me. With a custom firmware, I could easily drive ~50km on a one charge (ECO mode, 20kmh, I'm 62kg). Guess I'm lucky, at least now.

All the stuff on amazon and from online scooter stores are cheap remolds that don't fit properly and are the completely wrong color. Segway stores / service centers don't carry them and won't order them for you. Kickmotion is also a scam site according to people so don't order from there. I think the only to get it is to order from Alibaba, ask the supplier to show pictures of the part with the actual molded text on the underside of the part, and wait 4-6 months for it to come in.

If you don't wanna go with a motorcycle helmet, check out full face mtb helmets, they're lighter and more breathable, but still offer more protection than a regular bike helmet. Thick leather gloves and a jean jacket or heavy twill one like Dickie's or Carhartt, unless it's crazy hot where you live, then maybe just a heavy denim long sleeve shirt. Same goes for pants; jeans or thick work pants. Pads if you're going more than 20 mph, doing a lot of on-street commuting, or if your biking skills are a bit rusty.

Better than buying prebuilt, as you won't be cucked by legislation in terms of power output and top speed, et cetera.

Unless you have a very specific need like rugged mountain biking with jumps and shit, you can get away with a frame that's old enough to drink and some hardware upgrades to make a bike to compete with 5k prebuilts for the price of a bargain bin bed shitting-prebuilt. Source from a reliable reseller, check you measurements, then double check them and go for it.

It won't look as aesthetic as ones with custom frames to hide batteries and motors, but it will overtake them anywhere and if you have a 3D printer and know how to work solidworks, you can pretty up and upgrade any mountings you have.

It's a DIY-kind of compromise, but you need to be one retarded fucker to botch up anything to the point of unreliability. Additionally you will find the bike less likely to be stolen, as junkies find them a hassle, but I wouldn't count on that alone.

You should probably replace most of the screws immediately with better quality ones. A lot of people complain about the screws being so soft that the strip themselves pretty fast from the vibrations and movement, especially the brake caliper screws. Turn of regenerative braking too since people have been frying controllers often on the 9+s and 10+s with it on.

I live in Florida and I've started seeing them everywhere recently, which is just the strangest thing because you would've absolutely gotten your ass beat and have been seriously harrased for carrying a yupp-e-scooter with you anywhere around here 5 years ago but now they're cool I guess

I have a ninebot of my own that I've stopped using so much as of late that hopefully I can tinker with alongside some helpful material if there is any.

Is there a youtube playlist of a guy taking a scooter apart and going over what each part and how it works or is there a multi-page pdf floating around that has essentially the same information? I know that bike stores repair stuff like e-scooters and hoverboards all the time, but what do they use to teach employees how to fix shit besides personal training?

I live in a shit town full of potholes. Some slight inclines that take minimal effort on a bike. My travel distance is around 2-4km. Does it make sense to get a NON electric scooter? My bike is heavy as fuck and a pain to use, not worth it in most cases so I go on foot. Budget is like 200 eurobucks.

The most reliable you can get the 300-650 range are the Xiaomi scooters. Sometimes listed as Bird scooters. Both made by Ninebot. Models are Mi3, 1s, essential, Pro and Pro2, or the original m365. You could probably find a used Xiaomi scooter for 300 or less on your local classifieds like Facebook marketplace or craigslist. Don't fall for the Gotrax or Hiboy meme. They're nothing but e-waste which people get rid of after 1 or 2 weeks.

Carefully inspect the Xiaomi scooter if it's used though to make sure it's not a fake. The biggest giveaway is that the knockoffs don't have the Mi or Mijia logo on the deck. They have shittier batteries and also sometimes come with solid honeycomb tires which are garbage and dangerous.

yeah that's not crazy. If your scooter has a removable battery there are battery bags that are designed to contain the fire.

There is a product that is specially designed for this purpose. I forgot what it's called but it's like a ball that releases fire retardant when it gets too hot. One bottle worth of water probably isn't going to be super effective.
