I used a large Seagull bag for ~15 years, kept having small repairs made until the company closed up shop.
At this point, I had a frame bag (Revelate) on one of my bikes, and it really changed how I think about carrying stuff on bikes. No racks, no panniers sticking out. Only real complaint was even their largest size didn't fit great (too short, front to back).
I already half-knew how to sew, so I ended up buying a machine, both to remake the messenger bag, and make my own better-fitting framebags. So, that's what I use.
4 of 5 bikes have the 'top-half only' style framebag, and I have a couple copies/revisions of that messenger bag (one specifically is set aside for work commute).
I've made all kinds of other stuff--saddle bags (roll, and trunk style), box-style handlebar bags, fanny packs, etc. But those two are the only types I truly like. I do keep four panniers on my grocery bike though.
