>>1785425It's very simple:
The coin has two sides. On one you have the "freedom" and comfort to go anywhere. On the other, you are paying for it dearly. Not through physical means like money, but through something much more valuable - attention. In this world there are only two real currencies: Time and Attention. Those are the only two things that have any value, that everyone exchanges globally regardless of anything else.
When you drive you PAY attention. At best, you pay some of it, at worst you pay all of it. Even stuck in traffic for an hour, you are PAYING attention.
Now, imagine if you didn't have to do that. The rich certainly understand this concept, hence why they all have chauffeurs and personal pilots to get them to their destination. They pay them paper sheets and digital ones and zeros to save them their precious attention so that they can focus on the bigger picture. Or just relaxing and looking out the window. They trade them meaningless fiat for someone else's attention, so that they can keep theirs.
Trains work much in the same way. It's the average Joe's grasp of spiritual freedom. An opportunity to let someone else pay the piper, while letting you... be completely free with your self.
Of course, being in the driver's seat is a fine and wonderful thing that everyone should be able to do and experience. But it's not something that makes sense to rely on for mundane things such as commuting to your wage cage. Because you are paying a dear, dear price, my friend.
Perhaps the biggest flaw between cagefags such as yourself and public transit extremists is the refusal to understand that you *can* have the best of both worlds. You *can* have a nice car that you enjoy and a pleasant experience using alternative modes of transportation. You *can* have your cake and eat it too, you just have to not be so fucking dumb.
