How the fuck do you get a job with a railroad?

So i've been trying for a couple years now to get in with a railroad but nothing bites,Not even a interview.
The only things near me are BNSF,UP and SJVR (San Joaquin valley railroad)
and either i don't even get a reply back or a "thank you for applying but try again later" email
Nor am i going full retard saying "i like trains" shit.
even track labor apps have been shit,How the fuck?

I've also tried with sister railroads like California northern and not even a response back.
I'm also prior Military and that's even done jack shit for me here.
What gives here anons,I'm stumped as hell here,Got a good resume and all.

I've been trying to get a job in skilled trades as an apprentice for a couple of months and that's with prior mechanical experience and a fake bachelor's degree.
Finally got 1 (one) phone call back about an electrician's apprentice after applying at like 40 places. inb4 they ask for my vaxx status

It's extremely easy if you're a trucker, because if you got experience loading tankers, bulk aggregates or containers from trains the railroad will take you on in a low rent position before letting you take control of a locomotive with someone else. What screws most people is the radio operations because nobody likes talking.

so why don't you go back to the military and ask to be a railroad crewman? It's a shit job, the recruiter will quickly get you into it although you'll probably be moving. After that it's easy street into almost any railroad job you want.

RR ops require constant talking with the dispatcher over radio. Nobody wants to do this. Not doing this is responsible for well about 4/5ths of the accidents at the RR I worked at.

All major RRs require the vax too, so if you don't wanna be vaxxed the closest job you could get is as a heavy lift operator for a trucking company. Most require 2-3 years experience with smaller lifts (tow trucks and flatbeds being the most common) and as a heavy lift operator you'll be the person called out to re-rail derailed vehicles and to help with maintence and car unloading (ie, intermodal containers when the intermodal lift is put out of service due to an emissions fault or leaky tire or other bs). This happens more often than you think especially if it's far away from the RR's formal maintence facility.

The *only* RRs I know of that do not require the vax are LA's Harbor Belt and BART. This is because of the proximity to the Longshoremen in the former case and SEIU in the latter.

I was in the military like you. My entire family has been railroaders back to my great grand dad. When i got out I tried to get on CSX and same thing, couldnt land an interview. I ended up going and working at a tourist railroad, the kind that you just show up and they start having you do shit. They taught me the basics, like rules and how to not get cut in half. I did that for 6 months and put it on my resume. Sent it in to a couple RRs and i landed a bunch of interviews and landed at a decent shortline here in michigan. Been a railroader ever since. I will tell you that the railroad isnt like the old days. It sucks. You either ARE a railroader or youre not. Its routinely 60 hour weeks or more with limbo time. You will be worked hard. At a class 1, sure youre basically taking a train ride, but shortlines is alot of ground pounding. You will be away from home alot. Your friends will stop asking you to hang out because you will always be at work. The benefits are amazing, the money is great, but you do pay for it. Management is just as bad as your "leadership" in the military was. You will be doing alot of dumb shit that retarded 22 year old trainmasters that jusy got a college degree think is gonna change an industry whos GREATEST change was the transition from steam to diesel. Personally, i still love what i do every day, but some days it is hard to go to work. Im spot 13 on the roster of 40+ guys, but it still is hard to do sometimes.
