>>1788108It's mostly confined to SF, Berkley and Oakland. The other cities bother having police. Richmond, despite being a shithole, has an active police dept and prosecutor. Stockton, despite going bankrupt twice and a 200+ homeless city, still has a police dept. All the jails closed for Covid, but most of the cities bothered to monitor their criminals and re-jail them when they committed more crimes. Observe how San Francisco is in the process of shutting down their last jail, whereas adjacent San Mateo Co built a new one and an equally sized asylum for halfway cases. Law enforcement starts at the Cow Palace and ends at the adjacent 7-11 because that's the county line.
Anyway, Menlo Park is karenville all the people are assholes all the cops are assholes everyone is mean, you will get tickets, and the police are /pol/ tier nutjobs from west texas (aka tracy) who got no problem curb checking groids that leave the adjacent coon containment zone of EPA. Menlo Park is also really shitty to drive in, because it's run by /n/tists, so expect pure hell unless you're doing a 5AM commute. This is by design, since Menlo Park wants outsiders to fuck off so the city is designed in such a way where doing anything but driving through on El Camino is a huge chore. Also the Sheriff and MPD stage their bike cops in the stretch of road between Menlo Park and Atherton, and they write at least 10 tickets a day in that one spot. This is why /o/ does not streetrace there vs other parts of the Bay.
EPA, on the other hand, was the most violent "area' in California until they got a government and a police dept in 1992. Despite Facebook, Amazon and Ikea moving in it's still a dump with no banks or grocery stores. The Autozone is notorious for the trash that lives in the parking lot and the pedestrian accidents that happen at it's alleyway. The biggest industry in EPA is still the salvage lot. When you're in MP and hear gunshots, it's from EPA.
