hello /n/iggers
In the UK specifically, how dangerous is it to drive around on 125cc motorbikes? I want to be able to do long distance journeys. Cars and insurance and tax for my age would be quite high (21) and I'm in uni currently, I the price for a cbt and a 125cc bike wouldn't be too out of the realms of realistic so I'm interested. Im guessing some of you lot here have experiences on uk roads with 125cc bikes?

In urban environment in can be quite intense especially if your going to filter and do some more aggressive driving. But you are going to save a fuckton of money and time especially in London were tube fares are stupidly high.

Outside in boringshire you should be quite safe and offcourse you are going to save a lot on fuel / MOT and insurance probably.

For the dangers of driving a motorbike, be aware that they are higher than cars especially in case of accidents. I would suggest other than a full face or modular helmet to wear a jacket with protections and also specific pants if you can change them (the only part i bruised when I fell due to a crash stop in rain was my knee, wish I had some nice pants with protections)

If I was 21 I'd get a twist-and-go scooter for bombing around town on, if only because it'll have an ignition lock, can be slid into a bike rack, and will be cheaper to insure than a 'proper' bike. Did this for about eighteen months. You'll get it up to 60 but, I still wouldn't do long-distance journeys (>50mi) on a small bike.

Do your CBT - sounds doofy but ask for it for Christmas or your birthday or something - and if the place is any good they'll have an all-in price where they lend you a bike and a helmet (with hygienic liner thing) - they'll take you out for a couple of hours with an instructor and a one-way radio. At least then you'll get a feel for two weels and see what your confidence is like, before making plans.
