>better tire clearanceMy hybrid could barely fit 37C, mostly could go with 34C which would dig in on the dirt roads even when dry on the sandy parts. Roads here are suicide, don't believe what you saw on the Giro. Grabble with 45C climbs mountains and rides forest trails like a champ.
>looks (and is) fasterYou are more likely to bring out a bike you like to look at which is an improtant factor for an everyday Joe like me who needs to excercise more often. Also a good looking bike starts conversations more often (can be a con if you don't like to socialize)
