>>1791574>>1791718The infrastructure wasn´t expensive or inflexible, in fact that was it's main advantage over the tgv design it competed against. Similarly whatever emissions it had were irrelevant compared to emissions from cars and buses.
The biggest factor however was that it depended on fossil fuels while being developed during the 70's, while competing with a design that didn't need them in a country that didn't produce any oil but could produce a lot of electrical power from nuclear power plants.
They could have designed a purely electrical powered aerotrain, but it would take a significant time to develop and the speeds it could attain wouldn't be that much better than the tgv anyway.
Compared to maglev tecnology the infrastructure would be much cheaper, would carry the same weight, but it would be louder and require more maintenace.
