High-modulus carbon fiber is substantially (one order of magnitude?) less available, more expensive, and weaker than intermediate modulus. I had never even considered using it for anything, though bike frames are the best use case for it.
Anyway, to summarize, composites are exciting, tons of possibilities, it's insane that even the resin by itself is actually a half-decent material. In fact hipsters everywhere are coating their work tables in that shit.
If you wanna buy a carbon bike frame, there's not much you can know without testing, and if you're interested in design and testing, it's definitely not a cost-effective way to have a fuckin' bike. Do you need an especially high-quality carbon frame to ride to the grocery store? Probably not, but I have a steel Wabi so what the fuck do I know.
