Why aren't roller skates popular anymore? Why don't people use them as personal transportation?
I dug out my old pair that has been sitting for 15 years and took them for a spin around the block and it got me thinking. Very surprised at 1. how fast they are and 2. how it still came to me naturally after all these years.
They seem like they would make sense for medium-range commuting:
>no special gear needed besides a spare pair of shoes
>no need to worry about where you're going to leave them like with a bike or electric scooter
>lightweight
>cheap
>fast
>easy to learn
>easy to avoid obstacles/eating shit
>various wheel options means there are models that can even handle rough roads
If they were more popular there would probably be carbon models that are so light you wouldn't even notice them in your backpack.
So how come no one uses them?
Me personally, I stopped using them because they weren't cool anymore at the time and I cared about normie opinions back then.
