His idea was to ride the one train south, wait til it passed another, then hop over onto the train going north.
Where we were, there are parallel tracks, but they soon merge so it's just one line heading out of the city. There's a passing siding maybe 6 miles away, but there was no other train. So to get off safely he had to wait til the next little town, ~16 miles further.
Of course he called me, "Bro, can you pick me up?"
