Enjoying them for the most part, except the one where he imagined that the Trevor Jacob video was CGI.

Asking peopl not to intentionally induce VRS situations seems pretty reasonable.

He said training is important but to do it in a sim.

Absolutely wrong: last 100 years taught us the 'just don't get into unfavorable condition' doesn't work. That's why we train spin recovery and that's why UPRT exists. It's the whole 'airline pilots don't need to know how to fly the airplane, they have autopilot don't they?!' thinking again, it's just so wrong and everybody in the business realises this now, except for this guy.

It's the same with VRS, yes, you shouldn't ever get into it, but you still might, and it's only good if you know how to get out of it. Simulator is nice but it's just not the real thing.

nobody in the USA does actual spin training for a PPL, spins are taught as theory on the ground, and spin recovery is taught as a memory aid. Only flight instructor applicants are required to train spins.

He's saying the exact same thing for VRS/SWP, to train it on the ground. You're apparently too dense to get the point he so clearly made in his video that he put it on the fucking screen for you to read.

The industry appears to go back and forth on the concept of upset training.
Spin training used to be required, but the FAA axed it due to the high numbers of training fatalities. So nobody ever saw spins, and the first time they saw one it likely killed them.
So now we've gone back to "UPRT."
Until that starts to kill people as well, and it gets axed in the interest of safety. We'll have to see how it goes.

I think inducing fully developed VRS is dangerous and there's no place for it. However, what really happens is most VRS training in flight revolves around recognizing it and instantly correcting it. It's one of those things where it ever so barely starts to develop and you either instantly fix it or the instructor does it for you right away.

The issue is some instructors are very hands-off most of the time (like mine currently) but don't change that when it comes to training things that can go south right away. Starting with my first hour in the sky, my instructor never touched the controls until it was absolutely necessary. But when we train things that can go bad very quickly, like VRS, steep approaches, or slope landings, he is right there waiting to grab the cyclic. If I don't recognize VRS developing right away, he fixes it and has me do it again until he doesn't have to.

But in the recent Texas crash, it was a long-time instructor with a fixed wing add-on trainee. So I imagine things started to look bad and the trainee made a large cyclic movement the instructor was not prepared for.

2 blade helicopters with a semi-regid rotor system are capable of striking their own tail boom/rotor. It really isn't possible (except in extreme circumstances) for that to happen in the 3+ blade fully articulated and rigid rotor systems.

The latter is significantly more expensive to produce/maintain, usually. One of the reasons why Robinsons dominate the training market, they're cheaper to build than their competitors.
