In all honesty though, i've bikepacked with bikepacking bags and also with panniers. Bikepacking as in packing light, not necessarily using bickepacking style gear. Panniers are a million times better because of easy acces to your stuff and they are waterproof. If you go 20min faster over 100k but need 20min more to access / store your equipment then what did you gain?
The speed difference (often cited because of aero benefits) is also negligible as it does not make a difference when you haven't maxed out your hours ridden per day already.
And then i see people riding less than 100k per day in maybe 5 hours of riding time and they NEED bikepacking style gear to be faster.... just ride more lmao.
