buses are like 30,000lbs, not a lot of other vehicles are heavy enough to cause as much of an abrupt collision as something as small as a car, so even if it's going to suck getting launched into that bar, you won't be thrown into it as hard. The mass of a bus is absolutely why you don't want to crash into a bus.

Maybe in some 3rd world shithole country. In Europe all long haul buses, basically buses that drive at high speed on highway are fitted with seat belts and I believe police can fine a passenger if he is caught not wearing a seatbelt (for example if there are cameras on the bus and they check it and see passengers not wearing a seatbelt)

long haul buses are governed under different laws
we have local volunteer ran buses that have drivers with normal b licences, in those buses you are technically required to wear seatbelts and have a maximum capacity of 8 passengers
nobody follows or enforces it though

As long as there are seatbealts installed (due to legal requirement) it fine its upto the passenger to wear or not, but legally if seatbelts are missing the driver and the company should be reported to police
