i know chinkshit bikes don't last long but literally only a few hours? kinda bummed. would it be worth to install new brakes/gears on the frame or just buy a new one?

the worst thing about really low end bikes isn't parts quality it's how badly they're put together, both in the factory and in the shop.

It's not really worth replacing parts unless you absolutely have to but it is worth adjusting them properly and I also think it's worth overhauling all the bearings because they invariably have a tiny amount or no grease and the grease they use is terrible and they're always too tight or too loose.

You will definately be able to fix the chain jumping issue that will just be adjustment and the brake probably snapped off because it wasn't installed correctly, maybe you should replace that if it's actually broken but you'll have to be more specific.

also 100% if it's got a quill stem, remove it and add considerably more grease to the wedge.
They're often bone dry and they don't hold good without grease.
It's also worth removing the bar, and lightly greasing the bar clamp bolts, and the mating surface.

Do the same for the seatpost, typically bone dry, light film of grease, lightly grease the clamp bolt thread. And the saddle clamp.

that's normal, on new bikes the shift cables "stretch" a little after the first couple of rides so the shifting goes out of whack, which makes the chain jump or skip gears
as for the front brake snapping off... yeah that's just chinkshit. plus it was probably built poorly by some underpaid fuck

chain thing is normal it takes 50 miles or so for the chain to settle- i assume you cant have a discussion about shifting under load if not just show him how to put his chain back on if it slips.

The front brake can be replaced with a superior one for $20. I assume it's a "V-brake"?

you mean the chain issue will fix itself with time? or do i need to readjust it? and yeah it's got some shitty v-brakes on it rn that are super loud even when breaking at a low speed lol

you need to readjust it, it's really easy once you figure out how derailleurs work
consult the park tool site/youtube channel for tutorials on front/rear derailleur and v-brake adjustment. also try and teach this to your aspie brother, he should learn it eventually.

the derailer may not be setup correctly at all, so you might should start from the start but probably it's just this:

>Shifting to larger sprockets is accomplished by tightening the cable; if such shifts are slow, the cable is not tight enough-- turn the barrel counterclockwise to tighten it.

What does 'snap off' mean? Did something actually break or what? Anyway, looks like decathlon bikes have a 2 year parts warranty so take it back and yell at them until they fix it. Then ideally find a competent mechanic (or friend who knows about bikes) to check it over and fix whatever the decathlon wagies might have fucked up.

So you dont consider "brakes snap" whatever that means a safety issue? btw my point is if you do a poor job setting up a bike it's your fault, cheap bike will fuck up sooner and perhaps the components are shit but if they fail so quickly that's mean he fucked up or he didnt know what he was doing.
Knowing that your brother is problematic and inexperienced even a minor mishap in the assembling could've resulted in a crash or an injury.
It's easier blaming the bike, i know but owning our mistakes is the way to go.
And let your brother use you could not set up properly is a mistake

I don't. A bike ridden slowly by a child or a retard or a casual does not even need any brakes. A bike with garbage brakes is immediately obvious that it will not be all good to ride down a steep hill and all consumer bikes have two brakes so if one fails you don't have nothing and you also have shoe brake or barrell roll
