depends on where you are. here in iceland the laws are worded in such a way that riding a bike or a horse under influence is legal up until the point you can't safely control the horse or bike, with no mention of blood alcohol content.

and yea you can get a dui on a bike, but the only time i ever got pulled over is when i didn't have my headlight/taillight and i tried to ride home from the bar (colorado)

ive been pulled over at a dui check point and let go.

I looked up the laws a while back and iirc, that they cannot take your drivers license for a dui on a bicycle, but they can fuck you up with 1000's of dollars in lawyers/classes/courtappointmets/fees.

there was a while when every 6months, id have another friend lose their front tooth while riding home drunk from the bar.

I remember one time i rode home drunk from the bar. i was shitfaced, i couldnt see anything, i made it to my front gate, crashed into it, couldnt get up and then woke up there the next morning.

i remember as a kid, my buddies and i were drinking at the top of a hill and they walked down behind me, i rode down the hill ahead of them and then woke up the next morning at the bottom of the hill with my bike 50 feet from me

I hate how car manufacturers have started an arms race for how heavy and tanky they can make consumer vehicles. Consumers are incentivized to pick larger, """safer""" vehicles, but they're only """safe""" because every other car on the road is a massive tank that will turn you into tomato sauce if they hit you. Those bigger cars are actually safer for pedestrians. The majority of pedestrian fatalities are due to the head hitting the windshield or roof. Flat, tall front ends like that truck’s increase the likelihood that your head will land on the thin, flexible sheet metal that comprises the hood and will give much more time for your head to decelerate. These new car designs were shaped by regulations to make them safer to pedestrians and they work.

A lot of cars that are new enough to have infotainment systems are also equipped with sensors of automatic braking, which if it can’t avoid the accident altogether, will at least slow the vehicle enough to up the pedestrian’s chance of survival significantly.

Accidents where the pedestrian goes under the wheels are extremely uncommon.

If you’re that scared of getting hit by a car, the biggest thing you can do to decrease the odds is to not jaywalk- only about 25% of pedestrian fatalities occur at a marked street crossing.

It depends on the state in the US. For example, in California bikes are actually not considered vehicles, although riders are given the same rights and responsibilities as drivers, so the DUI statute that applies to vehicles doesn't apply to bikes, for which there is a far more lenient statute. However, in Idaho the statute defining vehicles includes bicycles, so they are considered vehicles, and the DUI statute applies to all vehicles, so hypothetically you face the same penalties riding a bike over .08 as you do driving a car.

my most memorable time riding drunk was back in 2012 after i graduated. got fired from my internship not even 3 weeks in. when i got back around 10am, my other 2 roommates hadn't left for their new jobs yet so it was particularly defeating to come back. i made and gulped down 3 savoy corpse revivers in the span of 30 minutes. i then took my roommate's bike out for a ride for about 6 miles before i pulled over in an office park greenery and took a nap under a tree.

The best thing about riding a bike drunk is that the bike itself has safety-mechanisms to prevent you from operating it if you are too fucking wasted for your own good.
If you're drunk you will ride your bike like a dream and beat all your records on strava by mistake.
If you're blackout drunk you won't be able to balance on it and have to walk it home.

You are fuckin stupid. I just guess that you had an American education. It says fatalities per billions miles bicycled. The Netherlands has great cycling infrastructure which means cycling is way safer then in Murica. It doesn't count in the population because it is per billion miles.
