I see the benefits of having an extremely thin bike on urban environments and it's not for aeordynamics. Whenever I grab my old fixie (which has a narrow dropbar), I feel like a fucking sheet of paper among the traffic. I can manouver through the small gaps between cars like it's nothing. Also, I know I'm on the narrowest vehicle on the road period.
I had a 90's mtb that I bought from a guy who cut a good chunk of it's flatbar to achieve this because he would ride on dense traffic all the time. It came like that so I used it for a while and realized the potential.
I preffer a wide handlebar though, I don't give a shit about all of that anymore.
