Sully saved ALL of his passengers and left the aircraft in one piece. Yes Haynes and his crew did the absolute HERCULEAN best anyone could have done in that situation, but 112 people still died.

Haynes is still better than Sully.

I have no doubt that Haynes, or any pilot, could have done what Sully did. I don't think anyone else could have pulled off Haynes feat.

He was flying a brick and doing a big loop then flying over miles of heavily populated NYC to LaGuardia seemed like the wrong call.

At the time I was working in Battery Park City and the news that a plane had gone down in the Hudson triggered everyone’s post 9/11 jitters, then we heard the good news. The next morning the plane had drifted down towards us and was tied off along the seawall. I got close enough to where I could almost touch it.

Seems like this accident was an advertisement for computer pilots/drones. I remember seeing that they originally said he did a bad job because the simulations all showed he could go back to the airport, but in order to do that had to respond immediately - whereas a human it takes time to process and see what is going on. A computer could realize what the situation is immediately and turn around and fly back to the airport.
