>>1810621I like your bike, it's very neato - tell me anon, what's your gearing like?
I have a hybrid too, which is 16 kg. My body metrics are not dissimilar to yours, and you're probably fitter than me.
My smallest gearing is 22-34. This gives me a gear ratio of about 1:0.7. This so-called "granny gear" can get me up 33° inclines at a fairly slow speed. I also have 1:1 gear ratio, which is good for some of the less severe inclines. The epiphany I had with hills is that if you are struggling, you're maybe doing it wrong - speed isn't everything, especially on a heavier bike, so if you're able to maintain your normal cadence going uphill while still being able to overcome the resistance in the pedals, then doing 4-5 km/h in the process is acceptable.
Hybrids can be between half to a third of the speed of a road bike, and that's ok. Weight, rolling resistance and aero all impact the difference. But remember that a road bike isn't a bike for travelling - stick a pannier with baggage on, and it's going to feel sluggish again.
If you've already got a wide range cassette on the rear, maybe consider picking up a triple crankset. They can go as low as 22T, from what I've seen, but can still accommodate large chainrings too. They are extra weight, and sometimes indexed shifters can be tricky to find.
