for fuck's sake. park tool has been around since 1963 as stated in the pic. the internet barely existed in the 90s-00s. sheldonbrown.com was a niche small-time website and still only gets recommended by internet neckbeards. there were maybe a few hundred users in total on the largest bike internet forums back then. and enthusiast-level cycling really did not get very popular until fairly recently with GCN and such inspiring people to ride road bikes especially. bikes aren't complicated, every bike shop in the world knows how to work on them, they get their info from park tool and bike manufacturers etc.

everything working on a bus is simple, it's only complicated if you're standing too far back and you see too much of all of the parts but when you get in close its still just undoing a bolt or zhoodging a thing its all simple stuff maybe with bicycles you percieve them as simple because you're standing too close and you're not seeing the larger picture

Changing brake pads on a car is arguably easier than on a bicycle.

The only thing making work on cars hard is how retarded they are built - and that's by design, cause the harder they make it to service them, the more you rely on shops and dealerships and the more service hours they can bill you for.

Both are very easy but often you have to align the caliper on the bike or it will rub, which sucks.
When I made my post, I was just thinking that there really isn't anything on a bike that can compare to the process of rebuilding an engine cylinder head or changing out a subframe.

it's trivial and nobody actually uses it, only for fixed gear bikes should you take the crank length into account like if you're choosing between a 48 or 49 tooth chainring. on a road bike you almost never change the crank length and the difference between a 170mm and a 172.5mm crank is only 1.5%, it's not on the same level as changing between different cassettes etc.
