>>1827388Not him, but I grew up in Levittown, PA, one of the original suburbs.
I love the place and how nice a lot of the neighborhoods feel, but outside of it I've always felt it could be improved. For example, as a kid was always annoying to me that the closest grocery was literally 1.5 miles away over a couple main roads and took an hour round trip just by walking. Would've been pretty convenient to have a small store in the neighborhood itself for basic goods.
Another thing are the retarded zoning regulations which, in an attempt to prevent any housing from being converted into duplexes or triplexes, required there only be one kitchen per house. It'd be a good source of income to rent out a portion of your home + makes it easy for kids just getting out to find a place to live.
Thought it'd also be better if sidewalks included street trees maintained by the townships instead of it being left to homeowners. Insurance companies and predatory "tree services" tend to like those things cut down and butchered.
My drift into urbanism came moreso from those little observations on how to improve my own suburban environment over how it is currently is. I always thought it would be cool to see Levittown developed into a pleasant, more bustling town full of people I know.
It'd make those walks around the neighborhood all the nicer.
