Anyone else noticing that Boomers are ruining bicycling just like they ruined countless other things?

Bikes are now way more expensive and the bicycle paths are full of assholes dressed up in spandex who behave just as bad to pedestrians and cars as they probably behave to cyclists and pedestrians when in their cars.

What the fuck is their problem?

well it depends if you view cycling as transportation or a hobby
it doesn't have to be expensive, and there's no point in trying to be one of the 'good ones'
drivers and the general public will hate you regardless
boomers do have too much money and influence though, that could be inflating prices
I just buy an annual citibike membership and fuck around in traffic no need for bike paths

I don't think so. I got into bikes in about 1997/1998 and £300 was considered to be the minimum spend on a new bike assuming you weren't buying department store or used bikes. £300 would be £470 today. The cheapest bike in Trek's range is £475, and that's a WAY better equipped bike than you would have gotten for £300.

You need to spend at least $1500 for a proper road bike, everything under it is skimping hard on something.

You get Tiagra/Sora tier groupset and some cheap alloy wheels that are good enough for a beginner, but you used to be able to get 105 for that money.

What? £300 was entry tier in 1998 which is £470 today. Which is still entry tier so prices haven't really moved. But a modern bike will come with equipment that would have been premium tier or unavailable in 1998.

Bikes are a solved problem. You can get a bike now for less than 1k USD that's as good as the bikes used in Tour de France in the 90's. If you can't keep up with Pantani, you need to upgrade your legs, not your bike.

You sound like a slow larper who needs a granny gear on 2% inclines.
Lately, I've been seeing way less boomers riding bikes, mainly because they're afraid other boomers will run over them, which is great. I leave the bikepath for people commuting and learning, I ride on the street since it's my fucking right.

My city is full of boomers but it's homogenous white so, despite bicycles having the whackiest traffic regulations that haven't been updated since the 20's and nobody knows them anyway, also the infrastructure sucks balls, it still works.
Why?
Everyone likes bicyclits here so the whole town literally made up own traffic rules that makes it easier and safer for bicycles.
Almost everywhere everyone gives priority to bicyclists even where they don't have to and they aren't even mad.
Northern sweden ftw!

The best thing that can happen to cycling is the inclusion of boomers.
Now, when a boomer sees another cyclist, and it's someone around his age, he'll start to put himself in their shoes. He'll be way less likely to run over someone he identifies with, and then with time, this will normalize cycling in his head. For people who want to talk a lot about increasing ridership, excluding boomers shouldn't be on your list.
Aside from that, now that boomers with too much money are moving the market, I've been able to grab a road bike for really cheap, since he was "upgrading" his pretty much new bike.
I don't need nor want the latest and greatest stuff (and frankly, carbon frames don't really appeal to me). So, the more they buy that stuff, the cheaper good old aluminium and mid-tier groupsets get, which are about as good as you'd want if you're not competing.

Current Tiagra is literally better than 105 two generations ago. Manufacturers have to always make the following model bigger and better. It's why Tiagra is better than old 105. It's why new 105 is better than old Ultegra. But it also pushed prices up.

The same can be seen in cars. The next model is almost always bigger than the previous. So much that a lot of models have outgrown their original size.

Things are expensive due to inflation. I bought a Gary Fisher hardtail back in 2002 for $600. It seemed somewhat expensive back then. I imagine today a similar bike would be at least $1200.
