A train which never stops

No.1820876 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hi /n/. I was thinking about a concept for public transport and I was wondering if this has ever been done before.

The idea is to have a bus or a train which never actually stops at stations, but just slows down slightly to allow two smaller cars at the front/back to detach with people exiting or connect with people boarding. This would increase time efficiency for passengers, because they never have to wait at other people’s stops. You just walk to the main car when you get on and walk to the departing car when your stop is coming up.

I think the most difficult engineering question would be the rendezvous. It’s certainly possible, but maybe not within a safe tolerance. Has anyone ever tried this before? How did it turn out?
