If you are going straight ahead at this junction on your bike, would you go round on the designated cycleway or through the lights on the carriageway?

Depends on what point of the sequence the lights are in and whether one path gives me a time advantage over the other. There's an intersection in my town where left turning cyclists are supposed to make a right hook and wait at two (not even consecutive) lights, adding at least a minute to their trip, so I always take the motor left turn lane unless traffic is so heavy I can't cross the straight ahead lane safely.

I prefer the opposite direction. remove traffic lights, unnecessary signposts and street furniture, naturally reduce traffic speed.

How's the grip on color painted bike lanes anyway? Isn't color slippier in rain than just asphalt?

Then again 80% of my commute is cobbles and paving stones so who am I to worry about slippiness?

In my experience it is more slippery. Similar to riding on a white line.
I think the only thing that makes sense to fully paint are those 'turn boxes' (not sure what the proper name is).

I hear the slipperiness is intentional for biking due to reduced friction and spending less energy.
I haven't looked into how bad it is in rain/snow, but I imagine it can't be too bad or else they wouldn't do it.

The answer to this depends on the amount of traffic and how said traffic behaves.

Also depends on local culture. If there are lots of cyclists all using it I would be more inclined to follow suit.

Cycling over the pedestrian crossing is another option, and may be the best one where Iive.
It's illegal to cycle on red, but if you use pedestrian infrastructure, that doesn't apply. So if there's low traffic and red lights, cycling with the pedestrians is the only legal way to cross without having to waste tons of time waiting.
