how to modify bike to haul more stuff

what are some ways to modify it to carry more things? gasoline is getting bloody expensive and i need something to carry groceries for my family.
pic related is what i do to make it able to carry either 2 skis or 1 fishing rod.

I would carry skis or a fishing rod vertically
get like a length of pvc pipe from a plumbing place and rig it vertically on a rear rack

bloody good idea! i'll go and grab some. got any ms paint schematic of it? i was thinking of mounting it on the rear of the rear rack so that it'd be angled backwards a bit rather than poking into my back

well it depends on your rack doesn't it.
consider maybe cutting shallow grooves in the pipe for the tubes of the rack to sit in
you could then get it tight probably with just big zip ties.

Trailer is probably your best bet, although I'm partial to bakfiets designs.
I know there's some really long tail bikes that have plenty of cargo rack room to put 2 or sometimes 3 passengers. That can easily translate to room for a basket or something.

just get an insulated backpack which you can just take to the store

or a satchel which is what I plan on doing since if I go for groceries/food/etc it can usually fit

bookrack and a folding side cage thing. i keep a couple bungee cords of various lengths attached to bikerack and a paper double bagged grocry bag that keeps shape inside the fold out cage thing that way i can throw loose shit in there. i can throw backpacks in there and not worry about loose straps getting in the wheel
Ive hauled a lot with that setup. grocery bags stacked two high in the basket and a box of beer and another full bag of groceries stacked on there, and some good bungee cord placement.
