No, unicycles and segways are entirely illegal, and escooters max out at 20 kmh unless illegally modified, and still require insurance plates and have to comply to the same alcohol limits as other motor vehicles. 25 kmh ebikes are literally the sweet spot between putting in less effort and still retaining all the special privileges only bicycles carry.

Most of Canada has a cap of 32km/h @ 500W. I think Alberta is the only province that allows 750W bikes. I'd say it's the perfect cap, cause you have the ability to go faster if you have the legs for it.

I guess it's possible but anyway the fact that the bike has been modified doesn't automatically makes you liable. For exemple, if you go through a green light at 45km/h on your ebike and some dumb cager blow through the red and rams you, you're not at fault. But since I ride bicycles in cities for 10+ years and a motorcycles for 5 years, I'm always very careful around motor trafic.

No, it's because the legal privileges given to bicycles (no operator licensing, no insurance or plates, access to areas off limits to motor vehicles etc) rely on their comparatively low speed and therefore harmlessness which ceases if you allow bicycles to be turned into motorcycles with pedals. As soon as you do that you can't grant them their legal privileges anymore.

Both, as well as creating financial safety netting in the form of mandatory insurance to cover damage inflicted by them. Normal bicycles and slow ebikes don't need registration and insurance because they're practically not a risk factor in public traffic and therefore don't need to be held accountable for the tiniest infractions, unlike motor vehicles. You make bicycles as powerful and/or fast as motor vehicles and sooner or later you'll have to create accountability, if not preemptively then after a public backlash.

The problem is that bicycles are not made for those kinds of speeds. Their components are too weak (especially chains and wheels). The geometry is far less stable and you can't thigh hug the tank for extra stability. The rider is unlikely to wear any gear on a bicycle.
A Super Cub weighs 100 kilograms. An e-bike weighs maybe 40 if it's particularly fat, and most of that is battery. There's a good reason former is so much heavier.

you're pulling numbers out of your ass, I built a 1.6kw ebike that went up to 40mph unassisted, with added leg power I took it to about 45mph. Power requirements start to become stupid after about 30-40mph, 15-20kw is between 20-26hp, my 1975 Honda CB125s bike from 1975 topped at 67mph with something like 12hp. I also had a 82 Honda 450 twin with 47hp that topped out around 110mph. My estimate is that you'd need about 30-40kw to run 100mph

I personally have a preference for sportbikes and nakeds, but the intruder is alright, my dad mostly rides it and he likes the shit out of it now that the rear is stiffened, front has been extended and the front brakes updated to dual pistons. It's a heavy bike and the original brakes are pretty useless and lack any feel, while updated dual pistons made it pretty nippy and now you have to be cautious not to lock up the front. They're not the bike you want stock if you're used to sportbikes, but if you upgrade the brakes, suspension, clutch and fiddle around for a small bit more of power from the engine, it becomes a different machine. As for comfort, the ride is good but the comfort is more based on your own stature, if you fit on it, you can sit on it for long rides no problem.

I would give up right about anything to get my old Hornet back though. Rest in peace old buddy.

Mine was DIY too 48V @ 35A for 1680W SLA battery, I wish I went with a 60V kit though since the high amperage made the batteries, electronics, and wires overheat frequently. I think the CPU was electronically limited to 40mph as it felt like it could go more but I do agree, with about that much power 25-30mph made a good cruising speed.

Idk too much about it but what do you want to know? My brother has one as his first powered bike, I got to try it and it's really cool but power delivery is very different from conventional motorcycles. (it has a lot of torque off the line but it feels short on top end power for what it is, makes it a great city rider but shit at highway speeds) It's the second electric bike I ever rode, first one being a DIY 1.6kw ebike, however I've also owned 2 gas motorcycles with over 10k miles of riding, tried a dozen different gas motorcycles, and over 60k miles of human powered cycling under my belt.

If you REALLY desire speed, get a Yamaha R1 and call it a day, fastest thing I ever rode, it's face rippingly fast.

It depends a lot on how fast you want to go and how much money you have. I wouldn't recommend full size electric motorcycles since they're really expensive and don't go far meaning they're only good for city commuters. I especially wouldn't recommend zero since they don't let you fix the bike yourself and they make you pay money to unlock features that are already in the bike like heated grips.

like most BEVs then. I think it's to do with them not having gears because you don't technically "need" them for a motor because you can't stall it. (just like you can't stall your legs so you don't "need" gears on a bicycle, but nobody disagrees that they're nice to have) What I'd really like is an electric car with a conventional manual transmission, that way you can sort of choose your acceleration profile. EV conversions often keep the old manual.

Ebikers naturally don't want to be on paths with peds. The whole equation changes when you can actually keep up with traffic. Granted this is from my American perspective where there are unprotected bike lanes on 55mph roads but there should be no reason to limit speed of the vehicle. Just set speed limits for the roads or paths you're on.
