The fixie will never have the chain fall off, while gears help you handle hills easier and not wear yourself out (and allow for longer distances easier). The cruiser feels comfortable to ride since you’re sitting upright, a MTB will absorb shock better and not hurt your hands, and a road bike will cover longer distance easier.
You can throw a rear rack on any of these, so it’s honestly probably a preference thing. And just because people chose it doesn’t mean it’s the best. Look at how many crossover SUVs sell, while a hatchback, a minivan, or a station wagon will serve whatever purpose better.
