Very little. But it's not a commercial or political conspiracy emergent from one source like it's sometimes painted to be, more so it's multiple trends fueling each other and a cultural shift (convenience culture and the idea of the detached house with a front lawn as a measure of middle class success) merging with an economic boom (meaning people can spend lots of money on stuff), commercial interests (cars and detached houses with front lawns selling well and being profitable) and political agendas (emerging Cold War making apparent the usefulness of a well connected highway network for troop movement and civil evacuation as well as politics starting ideological debates over lifestyles and claiming doing this or that is freedom-loving and the other thing is communist). Any of these things being missing would've drastically dampened the triumph of the car (as was the case in war-torn and economically striken Europe even if the trend was to look up to the American Way of Life), but in the US they simply uniquely came together.

Very high. The economy exploded and people went from dirt poor to being able to afford their own little house and their own car that could take them anywhere at any time. Like with anything people back then though it was a good idea. I refuse to believe that some people could secretly think 80 years into the future and know exactly what would happen and then push it for some unknowable reason.

The biggest problem is lack of bike storage for all those bikes. Which can be solved by trashing one of those cars.
And this problem would be 1000 times worse if those bikes were all cars.
