Would bicycle theft be less of a problem if we just banned battery powered angle grinders?

Im honestly convinced the battery powered ones only exist for assholes who steal shit

it would need a way to hold a charge.Although simply filling a bike lock with lithium polymer the contact with an angle grinder could cause a serious fire. That could work. Bike would burn too though.

What you really want is a good tracking device on the bike.
You can get trackers built into headlamps or ones that slip into the handlebars. Or little tag trackers that you can hide wherever you like. There are ones that hide as reflectors or bells.
If you want to get serious I would put multiple tracking devices on the bike. A clever thief looking out for trackers will probably give up after the first one they find.
You should also have a serial number engraved on the bike and register it with a bike registry service.

Because if all you can tell them is that your car was stolen then they have nothing to do. They write it down and if your car happens to show up as part of another incident then they give it back to you. They don't actually investigate or anything.
But if you can just point them at the criminals then they see it as low hanging fruit.
And if you just call 911 near the house where your bike is they have to respond.
