unfortunately dubai is rich as fuck and its leaders throw all their money at big fancy projects to prove to the world that they can modernize, all while being an authoritarian monarchy (i mean technically its a federal state but each emirate is an absolutist monarchical entity)
however the main point is that currently, tunnels are expensive as fuck
they are absolutely amazing but they have a hefty price to them and despite what we like to think, in democratic countries the price tag definitely matters, because unlike the leaders of the uae, the politicians in free countries are held accountable for their retarded political decisions (even if they get preferential treatment)
