so I thought how about a bike transportation thread.
After moving into a more peripheral district (not yet suburbia) I have developed a requirement to transport things for longer distances than I used to in the inner districts.

What is the most practical day-to-day setup for transportation? Share your experiences.

Mid tier steel or aluminum road bike (or cx/gravel if you want to be a memester), rear rack and panniers, good platform pedals or SPD with "casual clipless" shoes if you don't need to do a lot of walking when you're not on the bike. Leather saddle unless you're dealing with PNW-tier rainfall. At those distances fenders will not prevent your shoes/legs/drivetrain from becoming a mess in the rain, so don't try to compromise your tire choice just to jam longboards in there, any ass saver tier half fenders will do the trick (though full length fenders are fine if you truly have the clearance). Dick barks and full hydro of course. Tubeless 700x32. Non-dynamo lights so you don't need to stress about someone stealing a wheel.

I actually signed up for a carsharing service here and I basically live at the very edge to what they consider the "home zone" where you can find and return cars. But I opt for cages only in emergency situations where nothing else is viable.

Personally my favored solution is a bike with big panniers and low gears. Simple, flexible, and really odd shaped stuff can be attached to the outside with bungee cords if you really need to. Realistically most people don't need cargo bikes or e-bikes, readily available touring, "adventure," "gravel," etc. bikes with a rear rack are the simple solution for personal transport and mobility.

I know everybody talks about their awesome bikepacking rigs and shit online and I'm sure they exist in more Western states but in my midwestern, upper middle class suburb the #1 way I see people transporting children and cargo is with a RadWagon. I ride all the time and you can tell which ebikes suck because you dont see them more than a few times. I see radwagons everywhere.

Depends how much you transport daily.
I use a e-mtb with a small trailer.
Can haul 50lbs+ without breaking a sweat
