Hello fellow Pennsylvanian. Whenever I transfer from SEPTA to NJ Transit or MTA it's like holy shit why is SEPTA so shitty. Go to the Fairmount subway station in philly sometime it looks like a fallout 3 dungeon

Thinking about taking a trip on train rather than a plane to NYC. It’ll take 12-14 hours but it will cost like half the price. Is it worth it?

wtf, SEPTA is trash tier I live in Philadelphia. It's better than nothing but TTC in Toronto / STM in Montreal were way nicer when I tried those two. The subway system near D.C was also quite nice / clean.

Do it, unless you have some kind of time constraints. That kind of distance is bearable on Amtrak coaches. I’m surprised it’s cheaper as there’s always some kind of discount airline ticket cheaper than Scamtrak. Bring food as they may not even have a proper dining car, and some form of intoxication if that’s your thing. You’ll meet interesting people and enjoy the rare experience of long distance American rail travel.

The Wawa station COULD be made better- there's exploration to get the old station in Lenni/Chester Creek and the old Octoraro turned into bike/pedestrian paths that would connect to Wawa, which would connect it to transit on 2 sides.
US1 would require a total rebuild though and that's out of SEPTA's scope.
Octoraro line, however, does belong to SEPTA.

Whatever you do, don't get on a train originating far away midway through its run. Amtrak doesn't clean the toilets during the trip, so by midway they'll be disgusting. Expect them to run out of whatever shitty food they sell as well.
Try it once, then just drive or fly. Outside of NYC-Chicago and NYC-DC it's a sad joke.
