I commute by bike, it's only a 6 mile trip but that's 12 miles a day, 60 miles a week plus I usually go for at least one lengthy bike ride a month, in the summer it's more like one a week but over the year it probably averages out to another 25 miles a week.
So 80 miles a week, in the last 12 months I had 4 punctures. 2 of those were the same puncture, in that a tiny sliver of metal became embedded in my tyre and wasn't exposed, but when my wheel hit a rock or something else with sufficient force the tyre would flex and the shard would be pushed out and into the inner tube. After the second puncture was in the exact same place as the previous I realized there must be something in there, I found it and removed it. The other two punctures were thorns and occurred months apart.
That was a bad year for me puncture wise. I normally get one or two, but 4 is definitely at the upper end of the scale. It takes me around 10-15 minutes to fix by the roadside, so we're talking a maximum of an hour inconvenience over a year, or more than 4000 miles. An hour is less than most cagies spend in their car during a single days commute.
What I get in return for that minor inconvenience is sublime comfort and incredible lightness, a fair trade off. Only lazy twats want non pneumatic tyres.
