What should I major in if I want to build walkable cities? Architecture or Civil Engineering? My Uni has an Architecture Urban Design program and a Civil Engineering Environmental Engineering program. Also, I really wanna put some food on the table and I just dont see that happening with an Architecture degree, since it is an art degree.

I majored in Geography and Public Policy and I'm working for a small city government doing GIS shit relating to bike infrastructure and other /n/ stuff.
GIS is an in-demand skill and you can take a couple of classes or online courses in it to tack onto the end of your architecture degree. Even if an employer were to look over your architecture degree, knowing or having experience with ArcGIS could be enough to catch their eye.

Civil Engineer if you want to be involved in projects that actually get done, and make a meaningful difference in a community. Architect if you want to make concept art, and maybe luck out into designing a few upper class houses.
The only practical career path if you're an architect is to sign on with a general contractor or housing developer and set up like three or four cheap floorplan homes that will become identical suburbia for a planned neighborhood. Civil engineering can get you into all types of actual projects that make a difference in your community, everything from water treatment, sewage, electrical, infrastructure for planes, trains, and automobiles, or even actual structural engineering for some projects.

Civil Eng is probably the most useful, you can always find a job at some bumfuck state/county government if your hardon for becoming the ultimate builder doesn't pan out. Architecture is a good minor/double major if going into CE, though. Environmental engineering is kind of meme, but also really important; you'd be just as well doing civil and using environmental electives or getting in on a research/co-op project that focuses on environmental stuff. Also, if your uni's environmental program doesn't include pages upon pages of EPA and OSHA regulations, it's probably not worth giving them your money for those classes.

I imagine that being a civil engineer sucks.

It's like how architects get into their like of work because they want to design cool buildings. Similarly, if you get into civil engineering, you're more likely than not going to do a bunch of gay shit that doesn't actually help anyone.
