I think Reno, Nevada, might count. I found it very pleasant to live in, and the rent for a 2bed1bath was about the same as for a 1bed1bath in Seattle.
In Reno, while there was no metro system, and only buses, almost everything I ever wanted to go to was within a few minutes of a bus stop, so it didn't feel bad at all.

Chicago is very walkable, the livable parts are within a 5 mile walk of each other plus the trains are useful for most of it.

Only the middle is. Further out it really really isn't. Lived there for a while and the 'burbs are a hellhole of HOAs and unwalkable distances.

no, even in chicago proper you're kinda fucked for "walkable" lifestyle unless you either have really low standards (because you grew up in america) or you're both able to work from home and extremely picky (like down to the individual block) about where your home is, and you intentionally limit your social circle to other people who are just like you (usually millennials)

anyone claiming that a chicago postal address = meme walkable european vacation larp lifestyle has no idea what he's talking about
