what do you think? a dynamo light with 2 modes. you switch and it's either

you'd use the latter if you're driving slow but still need light. you'd also switch to high gear so there's more pedaling

You just need a light with a small battery for when you're slow or standstill. When you move the dinamo charges it
I think there are plenty of those already in the market

A dynamo turned by the motion of your front wheel already works both when you're pedaling and coasting though. Adding a second dynamo and extra wiring and a switch would add more resistance, complexity, and cost for no real gain.

its fairly trivial to electronically vary the load on a dynamo. the simplest way would be to have the dynamo produce enough voltage at slow speed to power your light, and then as the speed increases, switch the output at a speed/voltage dependent duty cycle to regulate it - i.e. a buck converter. It is the same principle as driving a motor.

I like them lights what charge with a usb cable, i dont know how they make them so light? i never timed one but i can get 5 days of commuting out of one charge easily, that's 50+ miles, I charge them every friday night out of habit but probably could get another week out of them. what i'll do is I'll charge them up and then leave them on, hopefully I'll be about when they die and i'll let you know how long they last.

they cost £3-4 off of ebay about 5 years ago, never thought about dynamos, it seems to only make sense if you're going on a properly long journey, like across america or around the world, otherwise just buy new batteries or charge your bulbs, seems like a mugs game to carry extra weight and drain wattage even when you ain't using the lights.
