and yes correct installation has become more important as parts are made with increasingly less factor of safety
as has quality control in manufacturing and design, some really stupid designs have make it past the drawing board

Literally who cares? 105 is like 250g lighter, which is irrelevant and not noticeable for anyone who's not racing, and once you get into higher tier cranks than that, you have to pay exponentially more money to save like 50g. The only real disadvantage of sub-Tiagra level groupsets is having less gears, and even that is irrelevant for many people.

What would be the point of him having more gears? Personally I need all of my 2x11 gears (and I'd want even more) because I live in an area with both mountains, where I need big range, and flats, where I need close steps between gears. But for someone who lives in a mostly flat area (which it sounds like he does), they could probably get away with 1x8 or something and be perfectly fine.

The range of 2x8 and 2x11 is identical (with default chainrings and cassette). You buy more gears so you have smaller gaps between them which lets you keep your cadence more consistent. If you don't understand why that's important then you're not remotely a 'racer'.

FTFY, people who are older than 12 remember the harsh ride of aluminum frames and would be happy to ride anything BUT aluminum, why do you think the "steel is real" cope became such a big thing? It's only recently now that NEETs have had a decade or so of riding gaspipe cope bikes and realizing that the tires matter more than the frame that there's a demand for something other than crabon or steel

I remember being very disappointed by my first aluminium/suspension fork bike some 15 years ago after riding a steel mtb for years. Not only was it not lighter, but it really did vibrate differently on flat terrain, very jittery in comparison to steel. Maybe modern alu bikes are better, but this made me avoid the material when buying a new bike.

Yeah Im almost a middle aged man, I was a kid when Pantani was the shit, but hear me:
I would have liked to have the ultegra disk version, but the dueal pivot brake works quite well even if it doesnt have the finesse of a disk brake at high speeds. (got a MTB with hidro disks). Also disk brakes are a psycological nightmare if they start chafing. Regarding the crank, Im not rich, so I kinda dislike the fact I cannot change the front gearing without having to buy the whole crank.
