Every 6 months or so laws are updated (by lawyers on $1000p/h) and it's mainly for fines with inflation, they probably started pretty even

Nah, the fine for using your phone in a car is $350 in NSW, I doubt Queensland’s is as high as $1000, that’s fucking ridiculous. Although I supposed you’ve also got demerits to worry about with a license, but still, using your phone in a car should be punished much more than on a scooter where you’re only endangering yourself

I think this is the norm, at least where I'm from. Ontario has a fine of up to $1,000 CAD ($1,157 AUD) for a first offence. If you're caught a second time, it's $2,000 ($2,308 AUD), and a third time it's $3,000 ($3,461 AUD).

It's because e-scooters aren't legislated in the Ontario Traffic Act, as they're currently going through a trial. So the province just equated them to bikes. I misconstrued your post, as I thought you were talking about the legislation for distracted driving. For bikes & e-scooters, fines range from $250 CAD to $2,500 CAD ($289 AUD to $2,884 AUD)
