What's the point in putting all the airplanes on the top at once? Surely you can't take off cause your back blast would damage the planes behind you, and you couldn't land either. Are they playing gym class below or having a dance or some event in the hangar space?

Nowadays this isn’t how carriers are actually employed but in WWII us carriers always carried larger air wings than their contemporaries as they used every last inch of deck space they could get away with for carrying extra fighters/aircraft. In this particular image you can see sailors all long the deck perimeter. It’s a display, not a ship in an actual state of readiness.
