Like lets just double the amount of concrete and steel we're going to use and spend millions on burrowing into the ground just to make the roundabout marginally more tolerable while multiplying its vulnerability to shit like earthquakes or other natural disasters. The truth is US cities can barely stay solvent paying for infrastructure upkeep at the moment, and you believe they can just spend more? The US budget deficit isn't just an abstract number, it has real consequences and those consequences will get even worse when times are tough. I suppose it might work if we could somehow ensure that never happens, but we can't. The Netherlands has like 1/10th the number of intersections which would require an underpass as the US does, so not an argument. These things will never come to America.
